Moven, starting positionMoven provides freedom to sports scientists who are analyzing body motion of sportsmen. With Moven it is possible to capture body movements in the natural sports environment, without restrictions imposed by inflexible lab setups. Detailed and accurate analysis of skiing, golf and many other sports is now within reach, whether indoors or outdoors.

Moven is based on inertial sensor technology, with integrated small sensors in a comfortable suit. The inertial sensors transmit their motion data wirelessly to a laptop which calculates the position and orientation of all body segments. The breathable and stretchable suit is lightweight and available in different sizes. All sensors and cables are conveniently positioned so to prevent restrictions to the movements of the athlete; skin and soft tissue artefacts are minimized.

Training and exercises can be recorded and replayed to analyze movements for the benefit of performance enhancement. The athlete’s performance can also be observed in real-time, to give direct feedback. Data of full body dynamics can be recorded for detailed offline analysis.

Application story
Roessingh Research & Developement investigates the technological and methodological (im)possibilities of application for coaching in competitive rowing, in collaboration with Dutch rowing clubs of Protheus (Delft) en Euros (Enschede), the Free University of Amsterdam, Delft Technical University and the NOC/NSF. Read about the research, click here.

Next to rowing, Moven has been used on skiers, speed skaters and gymnasts amongst others.
